SOME JARRING FACTS ABOUT THIS CLASSIC.
1.The Master director,Steven Spielberg,directed one shot in this epic movie.The shot where the Colombians attack on Tony Montana's house.De Palma and Spielberg were great friends and so he allowed him to direct certain shots of this important scene which appears towards the end of the movie.
2. The former ruler of Iraq,Saddam Hussein was a big fan of this movie.He had huge admiration for the great Al Pacino and this movie that he named his money laundering branch as "Montana Management".
3. Michelle Pfeiffer,was not the first choice for the movie as Elvira Handcock.De Palma didn't want her in the role after her box office disaster Grease 2.Many actress including Sharon Stone,Geena Davis and Carrie Fisher were considered but finally it was Pfeiffer who became lucky.This movie proved to be a breakthrough for the actress.
4. The much hated "F" word was used many times in this movie and as per a family survey this word was used 1.2 times per minute in this movie.But the film lost this infamous record to Martin Scorsese's 'The Wolf of the Wall street' where this 'F-bomb' was used 506 times.
5. The central character played by Al Pacino,Tony Montana.was named after a football star called Joe Montana.Stone was a huge fan of this football star.
6. Brian De Palma's Scarface is actually a loose remake of the 1932 movie by the same name.The producer Martin Bregman saw the original and thought the idea of remaking it.He pays tribute to the original version in this movie which was directed by Howard Hawks.
7. A very little portion of this movie was actually shot in Miami.It was first decided to shoot the entire movie there but protests by local Cuban-Americans forced the movie to leave Miami.
8. The cocaine used in this movie was powdered milk and we can see Al Pacino sniffing a lot of Cocaine in this movie.This lead to some severe damage to Al Pacino's nasal passages for years.Al Pacino also had an accident with the gun where he burned up his hand once, which made him take rest for few days.
9. While penning the script for this movie ,Stone was also dealing with cocaine.He wanted to have an insight into what the drug can do it the users.Later he admitted that he left the country to get out the cocaine habit and to complete the script.
10. The brutal and notorious chain-saw execution event in the movie was based on a real-life moment.
