       Steve Everett [Clint Eastwood] is a journalist who is recovering from alcoholism.He has a troubled family life and  is a womanizer.He is involved in an affair with the wife of his own fellow journalist which has made him unpopular in his office .Slightly eccentric and unnatural that Steve Everett is,he is assigned to follow the last few hours in the life of a murderer who is going to be executed the next day morning.Steve has to take up this job as the person assigned before,Michelle gets killed in an accident the night before.Steve who see things differently go through the case of Frank Beecham; the man who is convicted for murder and to be executed ,from the start till the verdict and gets a strange feeling that he is innocent.But the time is too short for him to prove his point before the actual execution.

     Frank Beecham,who had a terrible past but finally managed to change his path of life after his marriage gets wrongly convicted for the murder of a pregnant lady.The circumstantial evidences and eye witnesses unfortunately work against his plea and he gets a death sentence for a crime he never convicted.The movie deals with the emotional trauma of the victim and his family before the few hours of the execution.The prison procedures and the official formalities ,before a person is executed are well depicted in this movie.

       Steve has to work hard and fast against all odds to gather enough evidence in these few hours before the execution of Beecham by poisoning.With a troubled family life and it's problems bothering him all the way Steve has to expect some kind  of a miracle at the last moment, to prove Beecham's innocence.
      The movie is an emotional ride through the troubled life's of both Steve and Beecham.A stirring drama filled with lot's of suspense and thrill.Well-written and directed by the Legend himself.Clint Eastwood doesn't disappoint you anytime as an actor,writer or director.The master, here too depicts this complex plot with precision and class.A movie that will stay in your minds for long.
