Verdict: Power of will.An excellent western action movie.

       Dan Evans[Christian Bale] ,is a former shooter with the army but now leads a miserable life with his wife and two boys .He is handicapped and he owes a lot of money to Hollander,a local heavy weight and he keeps on threatening Dan for the money.His older boy Williams is not at all impressed with his father that he thinks his father is a coward.The herd of cattle, that's all Dan has as he has to find new ways to repay his debts to Hollander as soon as possible.One day Dan and his boys stumble upon the most wanted outlaw, Ben Wade[Russell Crowe] and his dangerous gang as Wade was attacking Pinkerston ,a railroad agent.Wade leaves alone Dan and his boys and Dan tries to help the wounded Perkinton.Wade gets caught by the railroad men in the town,Bisbee.Wade is too heavy an outlaw for them as they know that his men outside will come to rescue him by all means.

    A team is recruited to escort Wade to Contention where he will be put on the 3:10 afternoon train to Yuma territorial prison.Dan joins the team for a fee of $200 as he finds it a quick way of earning some money for his family.Wade who has the charm of attracting people with his talks and knowledge tries to impress the group in many ways.His gang keeps following him and try to create many obstacles in the path for the escort team.Dan's older son William too join the party to help out his father to get the much needed money.But escorting Wade turns out to be a risky and deadly task as men starts to get killed one by one and Wade trying to escape many times.But a determined Dan doesn't give up till the end as he almost end up single handed in the end, to escort Wade to the train.

    Wade try to lure him with more money to free him but a willful Dan doesn't oblige to his temptations.Dan's commitment and determination finally earns respect from even the outlaw Wade and all he can do is to wait till the train comes.But getting into the train is never easy as the station is rounded by Wade's gang member's and Dan only has himself and his will power to save him.For Dan it's all the more important to board Wade on to the train not only for money but also to prove in front of his son William that he is not a coward.

         This movie is one of the few Hollywood movie which was acclaimed better than it's original version that was released in !957.The highlight of the movie is the mesmerizing performances from the lead actors.Russell Crowe steals the show with his underplay as The outlaw Wade.Christian Bale too stuns his critics with an amazing display as Dan.It's one of the ost sustained and evokative work by any director in recent times.James Mangold deserves full credit to come out with such intuitively creative work.It's considered one of the best western movies after Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven.A MUST WATCH...
