REVIEW# 80
MOVIE: RAMBO:FIRST BLOOD 2.[1985]
Genre: Action/Thriller
Cast: Sylvester Stallone
Director: George P.Cosmatos
IMDb rating: 6.4/10
Deeps rating: 7.5/10
Verdict: Nostalgia...Rambo was my childhood sensation.
Once again an unfortunate Rambo spends his life in prison for 3 years before his mentor Colonel Sam Trautman visits him with a new mission. This time to save American POW,s struck in Vietnam after the war.He is offered freedom after he completes his mission.Rambo agrees to undertake the mission and meets Marshall Murdock who commands him to take only photographs of POW,s but not to engage the enemy.Rambo doubts Murdocks sincerity but keeps his word for the sake of his mentor Trautman. While he is been dropped by air he gets stuck for a while as his belt gets entangled. But he manages to cut it loose and jump. But this puts serios doubts on the ground crew whether Rambo landed safe or he was dead.
Rambo lands safely where he is assisted by a young intelligence agent Co-Bao.With her helpRambo reaches one of the camps and to everyone's surprise he finds many American POW's alive and wounded.Instead of taking photo's Rambo decides to save them and his actions alert the Vietnamese army. They follow Rambo and Co and at the pre-planned extraction site the American Helicopter abandons them as per Murdock's order to abort the mission.Once again Rambo is betrayed by his own men in life.Rambo is caught by the army and the Russians arrive to torture him and squeeze out information. But Rambo is a man with a mission and all hell breaks loose when he sets out for his revenge.
It was some sort of a hidden agenda for critics to down ride a Sylvester Stallone movie in the 80's and 90's.His rise to the supreme star irked many and when below average gangster movie's were rated highly ,Action movies were poorly acclaimed by them. But no one took the critics seriously and this time too the crowd thronged the cinema halls in huge numbers.Rambo was an icon in many countries where pure Action had no language barrier.
This movie went on the break all domestic box office records in many countries. It grossed more than $350 million worldwide.A sensational movie of the 80's I still remember coming back disappointed from movie halls many times without getting tickets.Such was the rush whenever a Stallone movie was released in the 80's.I can watch it many times and if you haven't, please don't miss it..
I am Deepak Unnikrishnan and I will be back with another great movie from my collection, soon.
TIP OF THE DAY: TRUE HEROISM IS VERY UNDRAMATIC.
