REVIEW: JACKIE BROWN [1997]

REVIEW# 50
MOVIE : JACKIE BROWN [1997]
Genre: Thriller/Drama
Cast : Samuel L.Jackson,Robert De Niro,Pam Grier
Director: Quentin Tarantino
IMDb rating: 7.5/10
Deeps rating: 7.5/10
Verdict: A natural thriller without too much gimmicks.Excellent suspense factor.
My first review of a Quintin Tarantino movie.I am never comfortable reviewing any of his movies as I find his script and execution a bit strange or rather unusual. Most of his movies are in many ways paranormal with an abundance of flesh and blood.Typical plots, totally mysterious executions and petrified BGM's makes them a different watch altogether. But this one seemed a bit atypical of Quintin's usual stuff but his breath is still evident in many scenes.
Ordell Robbie[Samuel L.Jackson], makes his world out of selling illegal guns in Los Angeles and he is a deadly.street smart character not shying away from killing anyone who becomes a threat to his business.Louis Gara[Robert De Niro],a friend and former cell mate of Ordell comes to meet him after 4years in prison and both plan to make big time and earn some quick money.Mean tine one of Ordell's courier man Beaumont gets caught by police and Ordell bails him out with $10000 from bondsman Max Cherry. That night Ordell kills Beaumont as he was sure of cops squeezing  news out of him.
Jackie Brown [Pam Grier],is a flight attendant in Mexican Airlines, who was helping Ordell to get out his money stuck in Mexico. One day two LAPD detectives intercept Jackie Brown and takes her in custody of having more cash than legal and cocaine charges which the cops had stashed in her bag.Their main objective is to tempt Jackie to give evidence against Ordell and thus lead them to his arrest.Just as Beaumont, Ordell approach Max Cherry for $10000 bond to take Jackie out of prison. On the way back home with Jackie from prison, Max gets convinced of Ordell's illegal gun trade and Beaumont's murder.Jackie has to help the cops now to hunt down Ordell but she can't afford a felon like Ordell. So she and Max together devise a plan such that both the cops and Ordell are deceived and Jackie and Max obtain the burly amount of illegal money in Mexico.
Meanwhile an ambitious Louis and Melanie[one of Ordells keep]has other plans. But a street smart Ordell is a hard nut to crack and with 6 people dreaming and planning to get hold of this illegal money planning and execution must be precise and meticulous.
Samuel L.Jackson is the highlight of this movie with his different outlook and perfect enactment of an antagonist,Ordell.Pam Grier and Robert Froster are brilliant in their respective roles. But I found the character Louis , out of place, particularly when its played by a legend like Robert De Niro. His career would have been any different without this lifeless character.Quite a different execution this time from Quintin and with some good background scores, this movie is an interesting watch.
