REVIEW: THE FUGITIVE [1993]

REVIEW# 10
MOVIE: THE FUGITIVE [1993]
Genre  :  Action/Crime/Thriller
Cast : Harrison Ford,Tommy Lee Jones
Director: Andrew Davis
IMDb rating: 7.8/10
Deeps rating :7.5/10
Verdict:: Action thriller. One of the highest grossing movies of the 90's.A gripping watch.

Harrison Ford was the most popular hollywood actor during the last three decades of the last century. He was selected the Number 1 actor among the top 100 actors in 1997, for his popularity and the boxoffice success of his movies. He shot into fame with his Star War series and from then on almost all his movies went on to collect huge money at the box office. He has won Academy Awards and many other awards for his great acting prowess. The Fugitive was one of the biggest hits of that decade. It  also won the hearts of many critics and was nominated for many awards including Academy Awards and Golden Globe.Ford movies grossed more than $6 billion worldwide, making him the highest-grossing Hollywood star and the record still stays.

Tommy Lee Jones is one of the most versatile actor around in Hollywood. With his unique style, whether it be his mannerisms or dialogue delivery ,he stood different from all.An excellent actor as a hero or anti hero, he has won many awards in his long span of acting. He won the Academy Award for supporting actor for this movie. He has also won 4 nominations for Academy awards in his carrier. The Legend of Tommy Lee Jones still continues and let's hope it will continue for long.

The movie is all about Dr.Richard Kimple[Harrison Ford] who gets convicted of the first degree, for the murder of his wife, which he strongly denied in court. His wife was attacked by an intruder ,a man with an artificial arm and Richard was too late to reach to the spot to save her.He could not stop the intruder as he overpowers him and escapes. But a misunderstood 911 call, spot evidences and other forensic reports unfortunately turns against  Richard and convicts him of her murder.A disappointed Richard ,being transported to prison for death row along with other prisoners gets a fortune, as one of the prisoner try to escape and in this clutter , the police van collides with a moving train. He escapes from the accident scene and starts his search in pursuit of his wife's  killer and this makes him "The FUGITIVE".

Deputy US Marshal Samuel Gerard[Tommy Lee Jones] after their arrival at the crash site decides to take up the case himself and he and his men starts the  chase to bring down Richard ,assuming him as a deadly criminal ,dangerous and armed.Richard eludes the officials many times but Gerard is too sharp an officer that he almost corners him at the edge of a dam.But Richard jumps down from the top of the high dam into flowing water and finds his route outside the police web. This scene which was shot with a mammoth budget of $2 million ,is one of highlights of this movie.

Richard continues  his search for the murderer who is a having an artificial arm and his search goes through hospitals and other official records. He gets himself well disguised making Gerard impossible to grab him.Meanwhile Gerard starts to believe Richards story of innocence and restarts the investigation of his wife's murder in his own way. Finally the movie reaches a thrilling climax with both Gerard and Richard reach the actual culprit.

Some of the scenes in the movie are shot in real, like the train collision and dam scenes which makes the movie a great viewing. The director has done well with his script to make this movie look so gripping, otherwise one that  just could have ended up as a cat and mouse hunting. The acting talents of the Legends ,Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones are at full display and for that reason the movie was well received by both critics and boxoffice. Its one of the biggest money spinners of all time and please don't miss your chance to watch it.
