REVIEW: THE UNTOUCHABLES [1987]

REVIEW# 11
MOVIE: THE UNTOUCHABLES[1987]
Genre: Drama,Thriller
Cast : Kevin Costner,Sean Connery and Robert De Niro
Director: Brian De Palma
IMDb rating: 7.9/10
Deeps rating: 7.5/10
Verdict: An award winning thriller movie with lots of drama.Watch with your family.

This movie was set during 1930's ,during the Prohibition time in United States.Eliot Ness [Kevin Costner] gets appointed as an agent by the Bureau of Prohibition in the city of Chicago,a city which is ruled by a very dangerous gangster called Al Capone [ Robert De Niro] who calls himself the Mayor of Chicago. He controls the prohibited liquor business in the city by bribing the officials from top to bottom. He is so dangerous that any one who tries to tip him or disrespects him are killed.Eliot has to deal with the fear Al Capone has spread through out the city and he finds his task cut out when he discovers that its hard to find a cop in Chicago who does not take the favors from the gangster.
Eliot faces too much embarrassment in front of his team and media when his first attempt against Al Capone fails assuring him of the fact that its hard to take on the gangster with an excessively corrupt system and  underhand men in the Bureau.Humiliated and disappointed Eliot fortuitously  meets an Irish-American officer Jimmy Malone [Sean Connery] who lifts the spirits of Eliot and offers his help to bring down Al Capone. So they decide to form a team of their own and recruits two more in their fight against liquor. They form an efficient and deadly team that's very soon called by all as 'The Untouchables'.

As they soon find out that Al Capone has not filed Income Tax returns for some years, they start to focus on his financial set up and the names of officials who gets bribed by him.The Untouchables turns the heat on and when they finally draws the first blood,Al Capone starts to feel a bit apprehensive and thus decides to take revenge and prove that The Untouchables are really 'Touchables'.In the meantime Eliot discovers that officials who gets paid by the gangster extend from low level cops to the utmost judiciary.
Bringing down Al Capone to justice looks harder, fierce and nearly impossible. The exciting fight between both gangs make the movie a delightful watch and an edge of the seat thriller. Will Al Capone be able to break the Untouchables???Will Eliot be able to bring him him down in the court of law????Watch this classic that's filled with suspense and twists.

Sean Connery bags an Oscar award for supporting actor as Jimmy Malone. The legend of Sean Connery effortlessly essays that role to perfection.Robert De Niro as usual looks majestic as the self proclaimed mayor and gangster of Chicago. He successfully blends  that much needed pinch of humor to the character Al Capone, which helps it to live in our minds for long, ascertaining the fact that he is one of the greatest actors Hollywood has ever seen.Kevin Costner tries to match up with the legends but I must say that he failed miserably. He lacks the much needed energy for a federal agent taking on a don in this movie. The music composed by Ennio Morricone is a treat and it won the Grammy awards.

This movie is a perfect watch with your family as it doesn't contain any adult scenes or foul language. If you like period drama and thrillers then don't miss it.

TIP OF THE DAY: "GOALS ARE DREAMS WITH DEADLINE"
