BOX OFFICE PREDICTIONS FOR ONAM RELEASES

MOVIE# 1

                  The most awaited Mohanlal-Lal Jose movie opened to mixed  reviews.A wide release helped the movie to take an earth shattering opening of 3.7 cr in it's opening day.Even though this movie carries an average to below average WOM this movie will be the first choice for family audience ,thanks to the Mohanlal factor.
As all the other releases too carry almost the same report ,VP has got all the chances to be ahead in this race.In a recent study it was noted that Onam season is the only season when the whole family with their elderly ones go out to watch a movie and most exciting fact is that the choice of movie is the responsibilty of the elders.Youth usually keeps their pick aside and joins the party.Thats where the Mohanlal factor comes into play.An average WOM usually takes a Mohanlal movie to great heights and this time with names like Lal Jose and super hit songs ,Velipadinte Pustakam is all set to rule the Onam boxoffice.
                 With extended holidays the movie will certainly touch the 20 cr mark in onam season itself.There will be a huge drop after the holidays which will not help the long run.The movie is expected to gross anywhere between 22-25 cr in kerala alone which will give a Super Hit tag.After all a movie with a bad script and weak story line cant ask for more.

MOVIE# 2

                                 This movie carries an average to above average WOM which is good for it during this season.But the heavy content and its slight resemblace to Jacobinte Swargaragyam will affect its prospects to a large extend.A bad time to release a movie like this but Nivin Pauly who is a darling of family audiences can shoulder the movie himself to some extend.This movie will certainly have a long run in the multies which will help in the overall collections.The movie is expected to gross anywhere near the 15 -18cr mark in Kerala alone.For a small movie like this ,its more than enough to be called a Super Hit.

MOVIE# 3.

                           Without any doubt the best movie of this Onam season.But again wrong time for release.Prithvi should have learned some lessons after Oozham.Onam is not the best time for thrillers.With limited releasing centers ,this movie stands to suffer at the box office.Its a well made thriller with a horror touch.Satanic virtues and crime is not the flavour people need during Onam.The movie lacks the much neded vegetarian relish for a festive season.The long holiday season will help it to garner somewhere between 12-15 cr.I hope the movie will end up as a Hit.But the movie deserves a lot more.

MOVIE# 4

                     The worst of this season and I must say Megastar is losing the plot.A serial type movie will not bring in family as they have their everyday share of it in TV .Family audiences  have already deserted the star and this movie only adds up to the agony.All his recent movies try to project a 69 year old's glamour rather than his great talent.All admire his skin at this age and talk a lot about his glamour which he still maintains.But no one will ever spend money to watch his glamour in halls especailly with family.Why should we spend 1500 more bucks to see his glamour when you can frame a photo of his for 100 bucks and hang it in our hallway.Movie needs some content which lacks in many of his movies recently.I dont care Mammoty having to display two or three white hairs on his head at this age.I loved him for Amaram,Valsalyam,Thaniyavarthanam ,Vidheyan etc..etc..not for his glamour in those but for his great acting expertise.With holiday season around this movie may touch the 10 cr mark.I would be surprised if it goes beyond that.
