Verdict: First rate thriller with a sublime Anthony Hopkins.

Ted Crawford[Anthony Hopkins],is a wealthy aeronautical engineer in Los Angeles.He finds out that his wife is cheating on him and is having an affair with Robert Nunally,a police detective.Dejected Ted shoots his wife at their home and fires three more shots into the door.Nieghbour's alert the police and they arrive on the scene to arrest Ted who hasn't disarmed yet.Police sends a negotiator into the house and Ted allows the negotiator to enter on the condition that both keep their gun down inside the house.The negotiator happens to be detective Nunally as per Ted's plan and he confess to him about shooting his wife.Nunally is all surprised to see his lover on floor and arrests Ted immediately.Ted's wife gets admitted in a hospital and falls into a comma.With Ted's confession and other proofs it seemed a shut case,but things turn around distinctly in court.

      William Beachum is an ambitious attorney who gets a new offer with a higher pay grade in Wooten and Simms,a well known law firm.Before moving to his new firm he has to finish off some pending cases with his current employer.Ted's case come up to him and considering it as an open-and-shut matter he reaches court and agrees for trial immediately.At the trial,in spite of persistent advice by the judge,Ted refuses to take up an attorneyand decides to fight his case alone.Star prosecutor Willy is amazed by Ted's move and laughs off the case.With all evidences against him and weapon and his wife's injured body discovered from the scene,Ted had no way out.

           But as trial starts matters take a U-turn as the court finds out that the weapon confiscated from Ted was fully loaded and not a single shot has been fired from it.Moreover Ted exposes Nunally as his wife's lover and confessions from him will not stick in the court of law.A case that seemed to be a mere formality for Willy turns out to be something that's going to destroy his career prospects and peace of mind.

            The only way in front of Willy now is either to find the missing gun or pray that Ted's wife recovers from coma and testifies against him.But either of this happen and Ted is set free by the court.The whole episode in court room turns fatal for William as it hurts him both mentally and professionally.He retires from his profession and withdraws into solitary.
      But the big question still haunts him.Where did the gun disappear?It follows him all along and will he be able to find an answer for it and nail Ted again??The movie take you to intense agog all through.This edge of the seat thriller will not make you disappointed.Anthony Hopkins with his graceful talent steals the show.He overwhelmingly over shadows others with a prodigious performance.Ryan Gosling must consider himself lucky to have played alongside the legend.He must have learned a lot from this outing.Overall an electrifying movie....
