#PLOT.
   There are a lot of things eating Gilbert Grape [Johnny Depp] in this life.His father hanged himself in the basement years ago and her mother who is morbidly obese and who can't move freely with all her weight around.Two sisters of which one sister who is studying.But more than anything else what's eating Gilbert is his younger brother Arnie[Leonardo DiCaprio],who is mentally retarded with no brain growth.He behaves like a kid doing stupid things and creating panic in one way or other for his neighbors and local police.So Gilbert is always busy caring him and takes him along wherever he go.He loves his brother so much that he doesn't like anyone teasing him or hurting him.

 His mother who has lost all hope's in life because of her obesity realizes that she is a laughing stock for all in the town especially the children around.So she doesn't get out of her home and spends her tim mostly watching TV.Another thing that's eating Gilbert is their home which is too old and with a weak foundation and too much weight to hold,can breakdown on their heads any time.The whole family depends on Gilbert and he doesn't disappoint them too.He loves his family and he is ready to do anything to keep them smiling and happy.One day he meets a girl named Becky and romance starts to bud.But with his unusual living circumstances he finds it hard to keep his romance going.A man who has dedicated his life to his disabled brother and his poor family has no time for romance and pleasure.....

#POSITIVES.

1. The story is so pure and touching ,with some lighter moments which happens in a family,the bond between the family members and all the misery in a family that has to face so much problems.It looks so natural and real.
2. Hat's off to Johnny Depp's performance as Gilbert.The young Johnny looks so mature and convincing in his act just as the character he is portraying.Never seen him more conclusive in any other movie.
3. The movie belongs to Leonardo DiCaprio.The best and the most difficult role he has ever done for sure.The mentally retarded Arnie is safe in his hands.He once again proves beyond doubt why he is the most flexible and versatile actor around in Hollywood. 
4. Great humor mostly from Arnie's stupidity and naughtiness.His character amuses and absorbs us.
5. Well-crafted and well directed.

#NEGATIVES.

1.Too much painful that wont be of everyone's liking.
2. Can bemuse many as it deals with stupidities of a mentally retarded guy.
3. Nothing commercial about this.It's all real.Life of many living around you.

#BOX OFFICE AND AWARDS.
 The movie was widely appreciated by the critics for it's touching story and matured performances from both Johnny Depp and Leonardo Di Caprio.Leonardo was nominated as the Best Supporting Actor in many festivals including the Academy Awards.But the film failed at the box office mainly because of it's stirring plot, which was just too hard to absorb for many.With limited release only the movie could fetch only $10 million against a budget of $11 million.
