#THE HIGHLIGHTS.
1. This movie easily qualifies as the best movie ever made on the deadly 2004 Tsunami which hit many Asian countries. The Tsunami scenes are well-taken and the aftermath especially the confusion and pain in the over-crowded hospitals has been portrayed with authenticity.
2. What stands out is the performance of Naomi Watts. Her character looks brave and vulnerable. She excels in her emotional scenes. Her fear and pain never looked fake.No wonder she was nominated for the category of Best Actress in both Academy Awards and Golden Globe's.
3. Terrific Direction from J.A.Bayona as the movie gathers pace every moment. The twists and thrill are maintained throughout. The Tsunami scenes need a special mention. Many remarked the scenes as painfully accurate.
4. The child artist Tom Holland ,who played the older son Lucas was outstanding. When the mother humbled, the son rising to the challenge.
#THE DRAWBACKS.
1. It's never easy to make a 100% replica of natural disasters by ordinary human beings as these natural disasters are caused by supernatural forces.
2. The movie was heavily slammed for giving more importance for the white victims in the island who came as tourists.More than them people who were more affected were common Thai nationals who lived near the shore and the employees that worked in these resorts.
3. Even though this movie ends with a sweet note,it was not sweet for many who got trapped in these waves.
#BOX OFFICE.
The movie was well-received by both critics and the general public. It made huge waves at the box-office grossing around $180 million world wide against a budget of $45 million. It was initially released is Spain and remained at the No.1 spot for almost 3 weeks. The movie was mentioned in the Top Ten Movies of 2012 by many critics.
