Verdict: Cliche!!Other than some good visual effects,the movie is a distress.

           Here is the wafer thin story line for you.On July 2,1996 our planet is invaded by an alien group with a mother ship which is half of the size of moon and many other subsidiary ships above all main cities in this world.Then there are some group of stereotyped characters who are one way or other connected with the American president and it seems these few characters own earth and they are solely responsible for the safety of our planet.The rest of the world are stupids and any loss or damage to them is shown irrelevant.So as the aliens attack the major cities in US,these few people gets lost and found again and again ;finally they develop some kind of a virus[they themselves are not sure of the virus] to destroy the alien defense system.Finally as pilots become a scarcity the President himself gets on to a fighter plane to inflict the final blow to the aliens.Can it be more  irrational and farcical than this????!!!!!!!

                The world looks too small and common man are made feel peripheral in this script.When the world is under threat of total annihilation,how come the American president shy away from taking opinion from other world leaders?Why he doesn't even discuss this issue with other super powers and UN?How comes the president and the others associated with him and their unknown families become the sole characters in a movie speaking about the Independence of our world?Do this world belong to them only?What happened in other cities across the world at the time of attack????If you wish to watch this movie and get answers to any of these question please leave a comment in my blog reply box.

       But speaking of some positives about this movie,you just cannot hide the fact about the stunning special effects in this one ,especially the destruction of some huge buildings by alien attacks.So too for its sound mixing.It's no surprise that it won Oscar's for both these categories.Other than that the movie is filthy and groundless.The spaceships and alien creature designs lack imagination and quality unlike a Steven Spielberg or a James Cameron movie.In spite of all these hitches,the movie went on to become a huge money spinner, earning more than $800 million world wide making it one of the highest grosser of all time.But I would prefer to live in an alien world rather than a world with movies like this one and directors like Roland Emmerich.
