REVIEW: DIE HARD [1988]

REVIEW# 45
MOVIE: DIE HARD [1988]
GENRE: ACTION/HOSTAGE MOVIE
Cast : Bruce Willis,Alan Rickman
Director: John McTiernan
IMDb rating: 8.2/10
Deeps rating: 8/10
Verdict: Great action with a pinch of suspense and drama.
It was Christmas and NYPD detective John McClane[Bruce Willis],arrives in Los Angeles to celebrate with his wife and two children. On his way home he stops by his wife's office to attend a party hosted by her employers, Nakotomi Corporation. As John moves to rest room to clean up he hear gunshots at the party and he discovers that the party is interrupted by a group of heavily armed gunmen. He overhears thier conversations and soon realizes that they have made all the people hostage including his wife; and the abductors are dangerous and they have demands.John decides to take on the terrorists alone and he tries to intimate the police about the hijacking of the building where all outside lines are disconnected by the terrorists. After persistent effort and fighting with some terrorists John manages the attention of a cop and finally a whole bunch of LAPD team surrounds the building.
Meanwhile terrorists notice that there is one man in the building who is not in their captivity and they try to take him down, but without any success.John kills many of the terrorists alone, but the big fact of his wife being one of the hostage should be maintained as a secret.John  finds it comfortable talking through wireless to the LAPD cop Al Powell, who tries to lift John's morale. But things take a wrong turn when the Fed's arrive at the scene and they seize control of the situation. They try to break in which leads to heavy explosions and their plan to get through the roof meets with heavy damage.John tries to convince the outside world that he can handle the situation alone but except for Al Powell, all others seem to be skeptical.
John possessing the heavy explosives put the terrorists on the back foot, and John with his youthful energy and skill breaks every barrier the terrorists put up.But it will only work until they discovers that they have John's wife in captivity.Media who always play the spoil sport in every hostage situation doesn't prove you wrong this time too.As terrorists come to know about John's wife everything goes fallacious and the whole plot transforms for the worst.John has to save his wife and other hostages, but prospects look bleak with him getting injured in heavy exchange of fire.
John has to pull out a miracle and some untrained skills to save them.Bruce Willis excels as John McClane with his energy and style.I was so impressed with Alan Rickman as Gruber, the leader of the terrorist group. This movie made box office history in the 80's and is still considered as a text book for one-man-army movies in Hollywood.Because to it's phenomenal success this movie had many sequels, all of them received well by movie lovers.GO FOR IT.......
