REVIEW: THREE KINGS [1999]

REVIEW# 26
MOVIE: THREE KINGS [1999]
Genre: War/Action
Cast: George Clooney,Mark Wahlberg
Director: David O.Russell
IMDb rating: 7.1/10
Deeps rating: 7/10
Verdict: A good watch about War and it's after effects.A box office winner.
George Clooney is one such actor in Hollywood who hasn't been lucky enough in his career. He had his ups and downs, but with a talent like him we always want to believe that he never reached heights he deserved to climb. He plays Major Archie Gates of U.S army in this war movie.

Mark Wahlberg, without a shade of doubt, the best actor at present in Hollywood. He is the highest paid actor in LA as per 2017 ratings.A hardworking actor,it was never easy for Wahlberg to climb the ladders to top.He has done some fabulous movies, most of them were big successes at the box office. He is the star of all seasons. He essays the role of Sergeant Troy Barlow in this movie.
The movie is set during the end days of The Persian Gulf war after Kuwait was freed from Saddam's forces.Sergeant Troy Barlow, his best friend Private Conrad Vig,Staff Sergeant Chief Elgin and Major Gates, embark upon a jouney to find Saddam's gold, which was stolen from Kuwait, after they get a map of the same from a war prisoner. They get along in a Hamvee in search of gold, but what greets them is misery of Iraqi people who is starving after the war and also infighting between Saddam's soldiers and rebels. They get caught in this triangle and in their effort to recover gold,Troy Bralow gets caught by Saddam's forces.Rebels save the lives of other three but in order to carry the gold back, they need to rescue Troy and also help the rebels cross the Iranian border.
The task seems too strenuous as they have to survive the heavy fighting between the rebels and Saddam's forces and also keep the body and soul together of the rebels helping them. They manage to save Troy from the abductors but the final journey to Iranian Border is difficult as its against US policy to allow rebels to cross the Iranian border. They carry the burden of a imminent court martial if they allow this to happen.
The movie is a great watch for its action sequences especially the depiction of war and its aftermath on people. Its technically a great movie with high production values.
But sometimes I get confused about the message, the movie was trying to convey.Does the director want to make a mockery of the very war itself that happened or he want to make look Iraqi people stupid and dullard!?On the whole, this movie is a one time watch.

I am Deepak Unnikrishnan and I will be back with another movie from old school, tomorrow.

TIP OF THE DAY: ONLY THE DEAD HAVE THE END OF WAR.
