REVIEW# 34
MOVIE : HOSTAGE [2005]
Genre : Action/Crime thriller
Cast : Bruce Willis,Ben Foster
Director: Florent Emilio Sirl
IMDb rating: 6.6/10
Deeps rating: 6.8/10
Verdict : Good performance from Bruce Willis.Good twists which will make you thrilled.
Jeff Tally[Bruce Willis],was a hostage negotiator with L.A.SWAT but a failed negotiation to save a child and women from her violent husband, shatters Tally. He quits the job and becomes police chief in a small county called Bristo. With his wife and daughter always complaining about his new job and the suburb,Tally gets no peace at home.Three teenagers Dennis, his brother Kevin and a former convict Mars, gets offended by a girl  for their abuse gestures on her. They follow her to her house. The girl who is the daughter of Walter Smith,a rich guy with some mystery behind him.He has a daughter and a very smart boy who he call's Genius. The three offenders sneak into his house to rob his expensive car in spite of Kevin's warning, but something that was supposed to be a robbery turns into a violent hostage situation leading to the killing of a cop.Things get out of control and the unskilled boys find themselves surrounded by an army of cops steered by Tally.Dennis even tough scared by the misfired situation takes charge of his three member crew but Mars starts to act occult which makes all uncomfortable.
The boys discover huge sum of money in Walters house and they decide to put up an impossible demand in front of the police negotiator to get out of the situation and save themselves.Meanwhile Tally on his way back home finds his family held hostage by a heavily armed men who is in pursuit of a mysterious CD in Walter Smiths home and they want Tally to recover it in exchange for his family.Things gets complicated for Tally as he needs to save Walter Smith's family and then recover the CD to save his family from these unidentified gang. But miracles happen and here it comes in the way of Walter's smart kid Tommy, who manages to find a way out from captivity to get in touch  with Tally through her sister's mobile.
The movie takes an unexpected turn towards the end which makes it special. The two hostage situation keeps you at your toes and the climax is intriguing. With the lives of lot of people at stake and Tally being the lone guy who everyone relies gives his role huge responsibility. He cannot compromise on Walter's family to save his.
Bruce Willis is a very seasoned actor, who has all the talent to essay the complicated but gritty character of Tally. He is too good with his emotional scenes as well as dramatic portions.Director seems to have studied the script well. before its execution.Overall a good watch for people who like hostage movies with happy endings.

I am Deepak Unnikrishnan and I will be back with another good movie soon.

TIP OF THE DAY: FEAR CUTS DEEPER THAN SWORDS.
