REVIEW: 50 FIRST DATES [2004]

REVIEW#28
MOVIE : 50 FIRST DATES
Genre :Romantic Comedy
Cast: Adan Sandler,Drew Barrymore
Director:Peter Segal
IMDb rating : 6.8/10
Deeps rating: 7/10
Verdict: A great romantic comedy that you can keep in your Archive.
Drew Barrymore, one of the most charming heroines in Hollywood for the last few decades. She has won the hearts of millions across the world with her endearing smile[in fact her forte] and sensual looks. She has done many movies in her extensive line of work in Hollywood ranging from romance to dramas and even action.Certainly one of the most handsome faces around.

A womanizer,Henry Roth [Adam Sandler],who is a veterinarian at Sea Life Park,by a twist of fate meets a young women named Lucy Whotmore[Drew Barrymore] in a cafe.He suddenly gets attracted with her unusual  habits and glamour; tries to be friendly with her but doesn't introduce himself as he thinks she is local. The next day he meets her again and both make plans to meet again the other day.But the next day ,Lucy behaves to Henry as if she has never known him or seen him before. From the restaurant owner Henry comes to know that Lucy had an accident the year before on her birthday which left Lucy with anterograde amnesia and she wakes up every morning thinking its same day of the accident and its her birthday.
Henry, who does not display any commitment in any of his relationships with women, suddenly develops an attraction towards Lucy and her problems.Everyday Lucy's father and her brother has the same routine in their life, celebrating Lucy's birthday with cake's and watching the same movie which she watched on the day of the accident again and again. So much they love her, they don't want to see Lucy getting hurt or depressed.Knowing about Henry's daily visits to Lucy, her father warns Henry to stay away from her.But Henry refuses to leave Lucy and starts making a video to make her realize that everyday in her life is a big lie.Lucy gets annoyed to learn slowly that she has a memory loss and all had been lying to her everyday.

Lucy, starts to spend more time with Henry and his friends which makes her forget her sorrows and regrets to a large extent, but for Henry he has to win her heart everyday, over and over. But Lucy realizes that she is becoming a burden for Henry and decides to leave him,but as for Henry he was happy to win her over everyday as he felt love for the first time in his life. The movie takes a sad turn towards the end but will Henry allow Lucy to leave him for life???!!
A beautiful tale of romance and drama never seen before.Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore are a great combination, both being masters at the art of comedy. We have seen them together in many more movies, but I think the chemistry worked here better.Scenes of Henry trying to win over Lucy everyday, will even make the dumb, laugh. With a fairy tale ending, let me say,its the most entertaining movie I have seen for a while.

I am Deepak Unnikrishnan, and I will be back with another movie from old school, tomorrow.

TIP OF THE DAY: LET THE BEAUTY OF WHAT YOU LOVE BE WHAT YOU DO.

  1. I used to love this film when it was new! Sadly, watched it too many times over the time... :) But still remember how brilliant I thought it was!
