MOVIE: THE PERFECT STORM [2000]

REVIEW# 123
MOVIE: THE PERFECT STORM [2000]
Genre: Action/Thriller/Disaster
Cast: George Clooney,Mark Wahlberg
Director: Wolfgang Peterson
IMDb rating: 6.4/10
Deeps rating: 7.5/10
Verdict: One of the most realistic and enthralling movies made on natural disasters.
#PLOT.
With poor catch and lots of debts to cover a group of fishermen decides to test their fortune once again and decide to sail to Flemish cap, under Captain Billy Tyne [George Clooney].Their determination and hard work pays off when they have the greatest catch of their life. With a ship full of fish the happy crew decides to take their journey back home, but what's waiting on their way is something monstrous.
1. The huge hurricane 'Grave' moving north off the Atlantic seaboard.
2. South of the Stable island is ready to explode with a huge storm.
3. Fresh cold front swooping down Canada.
4. The body of the Stable island starts feeding off both the Canadian cold wave and the hurricane 'Grave'.
A meteorologist's dream of a life time.It would be a disaster of epic proportion. They called it 'THE PERFECT STORM'. Media's named it the 'Storm of the Century'.
Unaware of this the Captain and the crew including the brave Bobby Shatford [Mark Wahlberg] ride right into the epicenter of this monstrous storm. Will they survive???!!!
#POSITIVES.
1.  One of the finest movies made on natural disasters like the hurricanes and rogue waves.
2.   Special effects of the superior kind. The movie is so impressive that it will make you hold your breath till the end.
3. Excellent sound mixing which makes the scenes so stimulating.
4. Terrific performance from all the cast especially Mark Wahlberg and George Clooney.
#NEGATIVES.
1. Nothing much except the climax which will make you a bit dejected.Otherwise a great movie for all sections of audience.
#BOX OFFICE.
This movie was based on a true incident and most of the names were unchanged in the movie. So the movie had to face many legal issues after it's release. The hurricane Grace[1991] described in the movie was described as a category 5 Storm but it never reached that speed in reality.Contrary to what is shown in the movie, whatever happened to the ship was sudden and not that dramatic.
This big budget movie was a huge success at the box office. The movie was at the top spot in US and in many European countries. It faced stiff competition from Mel Gibson's 'The Patriot'. It grossed a mammoth $330 million against a budget of $120 million.

TIP OF THE DAY: ALWAYS DO WHAT YOU ARE AFRAID TO DO.
