REVIEW# 74
MOVIE: UNSTOPPABLE [2010]
Genre: Action/Thriller
Cast: Denzel Washighton,Chris Pine
Director: Tony Scott
IMDb rating: 6.8/10
Deeps rating: 7.5/10
Verdict: A nail-biting thriller.Excellent from Denzel.
Engineer Frank Barnes[Denzel Washington],who is retiring after 28 years of service from AWVR after being served a notice with half benefits is assigned with a new conductor Will Colson[Cris Pine] who is at his first day at work. Will Colson is going through a tough family life after being served a restraining order by his wife. Both are on train #1206 carrying several goods cars from Stanton.Frank tries to support Will with many technical back ups and both try to get along well for this journey.
Meanwhile in Fuller two hostlers Dewey and Gilleece make a terrible mistake by accident as they allow the train the leave the yard on it's own power without air brake enganged. They try to get on the train but before they could the train gains speed and now the main line is occupied by this monster train carrying highly toxic and highly inflammable molten phenol enough to blow a whole city down.
The matter is conveyed to Hooper, the yardmaster and she alerts Oscar Galwin, the director of operation. They have to stop this train before it reaches the main city limits or else they put hundreds of life in danger. But as train gathers speed, the task seems almost impossible.
Galvin tries to stop the train from an engine from front but his plan doesn't work and so they finally decide to de-rail the train before it reaches the dangerous Stanton curve. The officials act quick and they start evacuating the city as soon as possible and police placed on unmanned crossing.Panic spreads the entire region and media is on it live.Frank Barnes who is on the same track of this unmanned 777 is alerted and he takes evasive action by moving of the track. But he doesn't stop by this. His invaluable experience as an engineer and driver prompts him to go ahead with a plan to slow down 777 before it reaches the Stanton curve.
He decides to follow the 777 in reverse with his engine of 1206 so that he could couple it from behind and apply his brakes to slow it down. But the mission is so difficult and needs a lot of skill and experience and with a young and agile conductor like Will with him he settle on a plan of action,in spite of several warnings from his superiors. They must act smart and swift to stop this 'unstoppable' train and save the city from a presumed disaster.
A Tony Scott movie is always a delight to watch. This movie is also filled with some breath taking action scenes and great visuals. It's an edge of the seat thriller with some great performances. The Legend,Denzel Washigton comes up with a power packed display as Frank.Cris Pine too does his role to perfection. For people who loves these NAIL-BITING thrillers, this is a must watch.
I am Deepak Unnikrishnan and I will be back with another great movie from my collection, soon.
